When Less Really is More

If you follow leeclowsbeard on Twitter (and we strongly suggest you do) you’re often presented with enticing bits of food for thought.

A recent niblet we liked: “Brands that will try anything often have nothing worthwhile to say.”

It’s a knock back to reality when there are so many new and fun things to try, and it’s something we find ourselves explaining to our clients quite often.

Client: “Should we join the XYZ Newest Social Media Site?”

After careful consideration of our client’s specific audience and brand identity, we might respond with something like:”Hmmm… it’s a good thought, but maybe we should wait? If your audience isn’t comprised of early adopters, holding off for a bit will let them know you’re not just jumping on the band wagon without doing your research.”

We continually remind ourselves to practice restraint when we’re building a website, a brand, or even a blog post. Less is more, after all. It’s so tempting to dip your toe into all the social media outlets out there, but the truth is, if you’re not going to do it really well, there’s no point in doing it at all.

Get Behind Your Design

Day in and day out, you work. While there is some variation in what that comes your way, most projects are eerily similar.

So how do you keep your stuff from blending together like a bunch of synchronized swimmers?

You have to find a way to stand behind your design. Yep- you are a reflection of the work you do. You and your work are one in the same; the success of one means the success of the other. But it’s only you at the worktable. There’s nobody holding your hand, telling you how great you are, and that this is your best work yet. You have to be the cheerleader on the sidelines, and the star player on the field at the very same time. And you can’t do that without realizing that your goal is to win the game.

Ask the Right Question

Ask yourself why you’re working on the project in the first place. (Why are you playing? To WIN.) When you’ve got a full plate, it’s easy to let the “why” slip between the cracks, and before you know it you’ve lost track of it altogether. (more…)

First Things First

We think this is a great article about setting aside time to work and being honest with yourself regarding your priorities… and cleaning the oven.

First Things First.

Congratulations to Family Practice Associates of Western Kansas!

It’s launch season, and we’re proud to announce the launch of a brand new website for Family Practice Associates of Western Kansas!

Located in Dodge City, KS, the doctors at FPAWK wanted a way to extend communication to their patients while making themselves more available to the community. One of the ways we did this was by creating a page dedicated to preparing for an appointment. Another way we helped the docs reach out was by creating a form that lets patients schedule appointments online. More useful still is the loads of health tips available on the treatment information page.

Pulled together with a slick, fresh design, fpawk.com is geared to be helpful no matter what’s ailing you. We wish everyone at FPAWK the best of luck!
