New website launched – Invista Careers

invista.jpg We recently got the opportunity to relaunch the careers portal for Invista. It’s always an honor to be chosen to do work for a client, -it’s even more rewarding when they come back for more. We designed the first website several years ago, and the new site really leapfrogs it. The new version has video testimonials, and integrates with a career portal software package that’s tailored for big business. The website is CSS/XHTML, with some sprinklings of flash. Be sure to check out the College to Career page for some nice AJAXY javascript work.

The psychology of color

Nice little article about the psychology of color here:

Red is not funny [This link has since been deactivated.]

“…the color red itself can have a physical effect on the body—increased blood pressure and heavy breathing. The one thing that is clear from all of this is that red is not funny…”

In regards to the seemingly arbitrary use of red in posters for comedies.

A Ride on the Bandwagon

If you haven’t given an iPhone a spin… You’re missing out. It’s got to be one of the sexiest devices we’ve ever seen. Of course we instantly started thinking of all the things we could do with it. First on the list was to get a version of our website functional. The iPhone does web browsing pretty competently without modification, -but there’s something cool about having a site look like a native application.

  • If you’re a developer, wanting to try out your own app, make sure to try Joe Hewitt’s kit. It will save you a load of time.
  • If you’re a client toying with the idea of targeting mobile devices, -get in touch.
  • Those of you without an iPhone will have to make do with the blurry video above. If you visit the address, it might kind of do something depending on what browser you’re using…

How Often Does a Newspaper Redesign?

It could be said that a newspaper redesigns itself every day. With websites, people tend to think of a redesign as changing content, and updating pages. Maybe adding some pages, or removing a few.

Of course a redesign usually includes some graphic changes, but the real purpose is usually to tell a better more up-to-date story.

So why did it get to a point where “redesign” was the only option? The simple fact is that most people treat a website like it’s a brochure. A website is not a brochure… A website is not a brochure… A website demands interactivity, -it demands to be current.

People tend to accept the fact that the brochure you printed 10,000 units of might have an out-of-date phone number, or paragraph. The expectation of digital media is that you will show the care to change the information to be current. The financial penalty to be accurate is minimal.
