There are so many reasons to be hopelessly in love with the show Mad Men. The cool 60’s vibe, all of the advertising references, beautiful women, handsome men, typography, drama… Not to mention Don Draper. But when your favorite Sterling Cooper employees start following you on Twitter, -it’s almost too good.
side note: This is the power of Twitter, -and the internet in general. Even though in this case it’s a weird, psuedo-connection, it’s still a connection. It really does make someone’s day when they get to interact at some level with a brand that they admire. It’s like getting the email back from Steve Jobs, and pretending in your head that this is the one that he really answered himself. It just feels good. And such a simple thing on AMC’s part. Just a click of a button, and they made fans for life, and got a free blog post out of the deal. That’s the kind of advertising you simply can’t get with money… Class-A move AMC. Never forget what Don Draper said about advertising:
“Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is OK. You are OK.”
